Are Dognostication Cards for humans or dogs?
Dognostication Cards use dogs to help articulate that which is meaningful to humans.

Are Dognostication Cards like Tarot Cards?
Both Dognostication Cards and Tarot Cards use symbolic systems; however, they use very different symbolic systems. The spreads used in Tarot readings can also be used when dognosticating.

What symbolic systems do Dognostication Cards use?
Dognostication Cards use a variety of metaphysical and psychological systems:

28 ABSTRACTION CARDS offer meaningful insights. Each card is based upon one of the 28 ancient nakshatras of Vedic Astrology, which correlate with the 28 lunar manazils in the Arabic system. Each pair of Abstraction Cards finds deeper meaning through their association with one of 14 developmental stages.

14 ACTION CARDS ask for immediate action to alter perspective and change point of view. Each card is based upon one of the 7 chakras, the energy centers of the body.

7 REACTION CARDS explore immediate reactions to the reading. Each card is based upon one of the 7 steps of alchemical transformation from the Emerald Tablet.

How do readings with the Dognostication Cards?

  1. Shuffle the cards.
  2. Pick three cards face down to form the three-card spread. Turn each card over, look at it and contemplate it's meaning before looking it up in "The Booklet of Instructions and Interpretation" (large print available)or in The Book of Dognostication, to be published in 2007.
  3. If you turn over an Abstraction Card (black lettering): BEFORE relates to recent past events; NOW articulates the present; and AHEAD is a projection of what is likely to happen based upon what you know so far.

For Action Cards (green lettering): perform the tasks noted.

For Reaction Cards (red lettering) determine how and when the meaning fits you.

  4. Hold onto what is meaningful to you; disregard the rest.
What is the history of the Dognostication Cards?
A more complete history can be found here. However, in brief, Z. Sharon Glantz created the beta version as holiday gifts for some of the regulars of the dogpark at Golden Gardens in Seattle, Washington. For the current version, Z. Sharon researched symbolic systems to serve as a backbone to the meaning of the cards because, well, she's like that.
